About Us

Mill Creek Community Partnership – (MCCP) is a community non-profit agency spearheaded by The Church Down The Way in 2004 to serve as community outreach agent.  With the assistance of the University of Pennsylvania Law School’s Entrepreneurship Legal Clinic, MCCP received its 501(c) (3) status within thirty days of its submission and is highlighted as a model agency in the Clinic’s curriculum.

The mission of MCCP is to serve as a catalyst in the revitalization of the Mill Creek community through arts and culture, education, community based-initiatives, urban re-development, economic empowerment and accessible innovative programming.

MCCP’s vision is a healthy and vibrant community where residents of all ages have access to excellence in education, resources, housing, arts and culture and economic stability in a safe environment, anchored by collective responsibility.  

Creating Community Through Partnering through the utilization, integration and cross-pollination of existing assets within the community and regionally in unison with the non-duplication of services is MCCP’s primary theory of operation. 

MCCP functions as a community resource clearinghouse, outreach liaison and service delivery conduit providing accessibility to resources, programming and supports to families, youth, seniors, educational institutions and grass roots agencies.  MCCP’s scope of community impact initiatives includes; organizing, advocacy, ongoing needs assessment, professional development, networking, training, capacity building and strategic planning.

Mill Creek Community

Community is where the heart is.

Mill Creek is a diverse community located in West Philadelphia; north of Market Street, south of Girard Avenue, between 44th and 52nd Streets. MCCP believes by directing its efforts in a specific geographical area the community will benefit and be impacted on a whole.  MCCP’s targeted area encompasses 43rd to 50th Streets, Lancaster – Haverford Avenues.

Youth, adults and seniors in a variety of disciplines and multiple sites. Fine Art Through Our Eyes Young Artists Workshops was developed in 2005 with a mission to provide a safe, creative, stimulating and accessible environment where individual are encouraged to explore fine and contemporary art through a variety of mediums, while igniting the individual creative process, while exploring Artists of color vast cultural richness and contributions to the arts. The core curriculum consist of art appreciation, cultural and community preservation, literacy and hands on activities in various disciplines that include graphic design, sewing, portfolio development, screen-printing, and entrepreneurial training.  Students are instructed by nationally acclaimed and local artists and gain access to internationally recognized art institutions and internships. The program has expanded from a single Saturday morning class of 16 neighborhood youth, to five independent workshop series at various locations and annually serves over 200 participants from ages 5 – 101, including residents at a local nursing home

Programs and Initiatives

MCCP currently offers multi-disciplined programs and initiatives devoted to Arts & Culture, Education, Family Preservation and Community Impact and services over 1,600 residents annually. Programming, special events and outreach is conducted at various neighborhood sites, providing stimulating outlets for creative expression, enrichment and civic engagement for residents of all ages on a continuing basis. MCCP also provides community institutions, which serve underserved and disabled populations with programs and activities that are not available within their existing budgets. There are no fees associated with our programs or services. MCCP spearheaded the organization of Annual Community Events in 2006 with the goal to re-establish community traditions and pride, while providing long-term and new residents, businesses, stakeholders and caring individuals with volunteer opportunities which promote civic engagement and collective responsibility. MCCP’s programs and initiatives are developed to highlight Mill Creek’s, West Philadelphia, City and our State’s vast cultural history, talents, innovations, resources and assets.

Since its inception in 2004 MCCP has established sixty partnerships with agency’s and organizations that share similar values and missions.  Through collaboration with various community groups, non-profit and educational institutions MCCP promotes the cross pollination of resources impacting the community as a whole.  .
